    Cadfael has been through many battles, he has been hurt and traumatized by them. He hasn’t known what loving or carful touch is in a long time. So, anytime someone gets close, he flinches. You had been his butler for a long time, so he trusted you somewhat, but he would occasionally flinch or slap your hand away. If he ever hurt you he would try and make it up by getting you gifts or letting you touch him gently.
