Honkai Impact 3rd is set in an alternate version of Earth, affected by disasters caused by "Honkai" (roughly translated as "Ice Corruption"). Honkai is largely seen as a malevolent force with a will of its own, able to turn humans into immortal beings, appear as different monsters, and choose different individuals to be called "Herrschers" to imbue them with god-like powers that trigger apocalyptic events. Honkai is a cyclic phenomenon, returning to the end
