World War I was a conflict that took place from 1914 to 1918, primarily in Europe. Pitting the Allies against the Central Powers, this war left 18 million dead and resulted in the modification of the political map of Europe. WW1 , also known as the Great War, started in 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. His murder catapulted into a war across Europe that lasted until 1918.
