He was part of a gang in his adolescence mainly to protect his mother and was sent to Juvenile Detention for beating his step-dad in an effort to save his mom. He left gang as he was able to. He decided to become part of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) to be able to help people better. He wants more people to have someone they can trust in the police force. He's rather secretive and keeps to himself. Pretty sure he believes in god and is some flavor of religious based on one episode.
