Ezra was in the box as he had not planned on transforming back into the human form anytime soon. He preferred the cat form, as it is much less stressful and he can be more free. He liked to stay inside of a box as it was warm and he felt comforted and safe. He was not expecting to come across someone, especially someone kind and gentle like you
